Gordon-Andrew Fletcher is a Spring 2003 Initiate of the American University Chapter, the Kappa Chi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. where he served as Chapter Polemarch and Junior Vice Polemarch of the Eastern Province. Gordon was a former Chapter Advisor who won Advisor of the Year twice for the Eastern Province and Undergraduate Chapter of the Year for Kappa Chi. He currently serves as Second Vice Polemarch of the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. where he has led numerous committees and won two fraternity service awards. Gordon bleeds Crimson & Cream and is a brother’s brother.
Professionally, Gordon is a Mayoral Appointee under Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser serving as the executive director of the Commission on Poverty for the Department of Employment Services that is led by Director Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes. In this role, he is tasked with executing a poverty reduction plan that aims to significantly reduce poverty in the District of Columbia over the next four years. Previously, Gordon was an attorney working in the grants management division of the National Oceanic-Atmospheric Administration within the Department of Commerce. He is also an adjunct professor teaching Criminal Justice & Public Policy, Negotiations, Cities & Crimes, and Legal Analysis of Local & State Governments at the American University School of Public Affairs and Washington College of Law. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and an advanced degree in Leadership Studies from the American University School of Public Affairs in 2006. Thereafter, he received his JD from Florida A & M University College of Law and returned to AU for a Master’s in Public Policy & Administration in 2017.
In the community, he is a four-term ANC Commissioner representing ANC 5A08 and former chair of the Ward 5 Democrats. He also served as Chair of the Black Alumni Alliance at American University. Gordon Fletcher, a Ward 5 North Michigan Park resident, is married to Brittany Fletcher, a mental health therapist. The two just welcomed their first child. Gordon enjoys giving back to his community, playing chess, and exercising.
